Douglas and Essie Finley moved to Black Springs in 1963 after purchasing a parcel from J.E. and Dorothy Sweatt that March. Unlike many of the early houses that were moved to Black Springs from other locations, the Finleys' house at 380 Westbrook Lane was built on site. The Finley's son, Donald, was born in 1970.
After the Finleys divorced in 1973, Essie married Jack Prien, and the couple continued to live in their home in Black Springs. It was expanded over time, adding more living space, a covered patio, and much later, a large, barn-shaped garage.
